Coastal Erosion Workshop Creates a Wave of Interest

Spending four hours on a sunny July afternoon to talk about coastal erosion might not seem so interesting. Yet a drop-in workshop at Stokenham village hall on the subject was busy from start to finish. The event on July 25th from 3-7 pm set up by the Slapton Line Partnership  to get ideas and suggestions from local people about what we can do to help protect the line and the road that runs along it.

Over the course of the afternoon around 30 people came along to discuss the history of the line, what defences had already been put in place, the changes in coastal erosion, and how to best protect the natural beauty of the area and the road.

Providing the background information were John Fewings from Devon County Council Highways, Dan Field, Specialist Engineer and Vicky Croughan, Communications from South Hams District Council, and Alan Denbigh from the Partnership.

“We had some really useful suggestions which will be put into a long list of ideas that get assessed and then chosen to make up a detailed plan, the  Beach Management Plan, for what happens next”, said Alan Denbigh.
